Bolivar Peninsula-Paradise Found?
By Deborah Olsen-Bray
Scores of tourists flock to the Texas coasts each year for vacation, and fall so in love with the area, they make it their permanent home or purchase a vacation home to visit throughout the year. What many people may not realize is that less than three miles away from Galveston Island sits another jewel of a barrier island. Grab your flip flops, board the ferry, and you’ll be only 15 minutes from breezy, beachy bliss. Welcome to Bolivar Peninsula.
Legend has it that pirate Jean Lafitte threw parties on Bolivar, and it’s not hard to discover why. Bolivar Peninsula is home to the only beaches along the Gulf Coast that you can drive your vehicle on, and for a small fee, you can park and enjoy a day of jet skiing, boating, or soaking up the sun. At night, don’t forget the marshmallows, there’s bound to be a bonfire! If camping is your cup of tea, scoot over to Fort Travis, around a mile from the Ferry landing, where you can snag a campsite for just over twenty dollars. The twinkling stars and views of the bay, not to mention fishing off the jetties, lure many folks over year round. If bird watching interests you, visit the bird sanctuaries on the north end of the peninsula. They’re open free to the public, and you’ll have the chance to see hundreds of different bird species here.
There are many events year-round to enjoy on Bolivar from music fests, summer bashes, the famous Crab Festival, fishing and gardening clubs; you’re sure to find something that suits your lifestyle here!
Bolivar Peninsula took a hard hit when Hurricane Ike washed ashore in 2008 taking nearly 3,600 homes in its wake, but the community is certain to strengthen and grow in the coming months. There is no better time than now to consider purchasing a lot to build your dream home on, or making an existing home your future playground. There are many amazing locations near the beach for either year-round living, or having a seaside retreat to call your own. Renting out your vacation home through a real estate company that is experienced with resort rentals is a wonderful way to subsidize your mortgage, and can prove to be a sound investment choice.
Sun and sand, fishing, festivals, shell hunting, camping, or just relaxing on the deck while the gulf breeze kisses your face; why wait any longer to head to Bolivar Peninsula? Call one of the real estate professionals at Ryson Real Estate and Vacation Rentals at (409) 740-1600 for more information on making your dreams come true of owning a little piece of paradise.
